New Folksy Shop

I have managed to post a few items on my new Folksy shop (in between stressing about improving my work life balance and stressing about the play I'm directing).

You can check them out by clicking this link:

I am trying to concentrate more on having a range of different items, rather than just necklaces and brooches. I am also trying to put more emphasis on keyrings and earrings.

Here are a few of the items I have uploaded already:

A lovely vintage style heart brooch with a flower.

A flower necklace made with one of my favourite flower motifs and with a crocheted chain of leaves.

A little doll keyring made in the traditional Japanese amigurumi style.

Can you tell I'm trying to force myself to include picture in my blog posts? I'm a very wordy person naturally, I always think a thousand words speaks better than a picture.

Tiny Turtle

I haven't had a lot of success with crochet amigurumi up until now, but then again, I have only done a few crocheted animals so far. I find them very fiddly and time consuming to do, and because I haven't had much practise, I'm not all that good at it.

I am really really pleased at how this little turtle came out though, isn't he gorgeous?

This little fella is not for sale unfortunately as I gave him to my husband as a little thank you gift for taking over my Etsy photography for me....

I plan on making a lot more of these now I am little more confidant, not just turtles but lots of other animals. I will start adding them to the shop here and to my Etsy shop as soon as I can, although I still have a backlog of items to add.

New Folksy Shop

I have just opened a Folksy shop.

There is only one item there at the moment. I feel a little disheartened that I have only sold one item on Etsy so far so I thought I'd try something new.

Rewnewed Listings at Merryflowers

Well, it's been four months and 4 of my items have expired. I have decided to renew all of them with modified tags and titles and will shortly be uploading some new pictures as well.

Please have a look at my relisted items. I'd like to sell them this time round!

A couple of these are on sale, so please have a look. As with all my items I offer free postage if more than one item is bought at the same time.

New Necklace On Etsy

I've just posted another new necklace to my Etsy page

here is the link: Flower Necklace on Etsy

I'm really quite proud of this one. It only took me a day to complete, which is quite impressive, given all the flowers that I had to create and then sew onto the chain.

Please have a look at my other items. I have uploaded quite a few new items recently, which I will probably blog about quite soon.....

About Merryflowers

I am a self taught crocheteer of jewellery and accessories, including necklaces, brooches, earrings, bookmarks and keyrings. All of my items are unique and are handmade using wool and crochet cotton. I do not use glue for any of my items, and all of my multi-piece items are sewn together by hand.

The story of how this blog and my online shop came about is that I have always wanted to have my own business, be my own boss and earn money using a skill all of my own. I've dabbled with a lot of things to try and start this off - writing poetry and stories, origami, painting, drawing, crocheting, reading tarot cards. My very first 'business' was my origami jewellery when I was about 14.... it failed because I couldn't really get away with colouring in my own paper with colouring pencils, and kind of because I wasn't very good at it.

I started crocheting about a year ago and found that I really enjoyed messing about with a hook and wool, although I had no interest in crocheting big things like cardigans and shawls. I don't have the attention span for it. So I started thinking, what if I could crochet tiny things instead? I started looking at patterns for small spirals and flowers and bows and other small crochetable objects (is that a new word - crochetable?) that I could then turn into brooches and necklaces.

I have since learnt how to create amigurumi (small 3D animals and objects), which has opened up a whole new niche for me as I can now create little keyrings and crochet ornaments. I am constantly improving my crocheting skills and learning new things that I can use in my own unique designs.
